WorkSafe Lays Charges Against Demolition Company for Asbestos Risk at Auckland Primary School

Auckland, New Zealand – WorkSafe had recently laid charges against a certain demolition company for letting children and employees at risks of asbestos during work in the Auckland Primary School. The Bayfield School in the Herne Bay were closed for two weeks due to concerned parents worrying about the asbestos dust spread out in the demolition site in May. Brett Archer, a parent, stated that he took samples of the asbestos and sent it to a laboratory to be tested. The result is positive and he contacted WorkSafe. He stated, “We just noticed some pretty unsafe and quite strange practices in the site so we have raised concerns.” He also added, “We only really got traction after I took tests and sent them off to a lab, had them tested, they came back positive and Worksafe were very pro-active and turned up at the site within a couple of hours and shut it down.”
